Southern Sinfonia, 40 years of Orchestral Excellence

Foundation for the Dunedin Civic Orchestra

The Dunedin Civic Orchestra trades as the Southern Sinfonia. You can help the Southern Sinfonia by:

  • Making a donation.
  • Including a bequest in your will.

The Southern Sinfonia receives magnificent support from the community to enable us to survive. However, annual income does not allow for the accumulation of financial reserves which will ensure the long-term survival of the orchestra.

Established in 1994, the Foundation administers a separate fund, the principal purpose of which is to safegaurd the financial future of the orchestra. An additional purpose is supporting the recently-reinstated instrumental tuition at the University of Otago.

Donations to the Orchestra

There is now an added advantage to making a donation to the Sinfonia. Not only will you be assisting the financial stability and growth of the orchestra, but you can claim a tax credit of one-third for donations of $5 or more made to the Sinfonia (up to the amount of your taxable income). The Dunedin Civic Orchestra Inc (trading as the Southern Sinfonia) is registered (CC34031) as a charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005.

We are acknowledged as one of New Zealand's most innovative arts organisations. However, with the Orchestra's continuing artistic growth, coupled with current economic circumstances adversely affecting our institutional grants, we are even more dependent on the continuing generous support of our community.

Your donation will allow us to:

  • present nationally- and internationally-acclaimed conductors and soloists
  • present the widest possible range of orchestral repertoire
  • employ Dunedin's finest orchestral musicians
  • undertake exciting and innovative special projects.

Please consider making a donation in support of your orchestra's continued growth! Contact us for more information.
